Once you have filed your UK or EU trade mark application, it is possible to extend that application to other countries that are parties to the Madrid system. The application involves a simple form, making it quite cost effective to apply for several countries.
For countries not party to the Madrid Protocol, such as Hong Kong, South Africa, and Canada, it is necessary to file for protection using local agents.

Madrid Protocol
We provide trade mark registrations worldwide. For countries that are within the Madrid System we a Madrid Protocol application. The official fees vary depending on the countries in which you want to extend protection of your mark.

China
If you have products manufactured in China, register a trade mark even if you do not intend to trade in China because a trade mark registration certificate is prima facie entitlement to the right to export your products out of the country.
Failing to secure your Chinese trade mark puts you at risk that your manufacturer will register the trade mark. Then if you decide to move to another manufacturer you will have difficulty exporting your goods out of the country without a trade mark registration certificate.
